Button - Penitentiaries Canada by Gaunt (version 1)
This button follows the Thomas Carlyle “Penitentiaries Canada” design almost identically. It is not known when Gaunt was contracted to make these buttons, but the general feeling is that Carlyle was the first to do so. Examples have also been found in white metal. The back-mark reads “J.R. GAUNT & SON Ltd., MONTREAL. Made in England”.
